The Devil Baby of Hull House is a disturbing and bizarre legend surrounding a monstrously-deformed infant that was supposedly taken in at the infamous Hull House, a settlement house. The house was built by Charles Hull in 1856 in Chicago.

Background[]
In 1889, a social worker named Jane Addams opened the Hull House as a settlement house for woman, the homeless, and recent immigrants. She provided education, food, and shelter for hundreds of people.
In 1913, Addams took in a strange baby into the care of Hull House. Some versions of the story say the mother was an unwed immigrant, but most say that the parents were a devoutly Catholic wife and an atheist husband. The story goes that the atheist husband tore down a religious picture his wife had put up, saying he would rather have the devil in his house than any more religious artwork.
The child born from the couple was said to possess pointed ears, cloven hooves, horns, scales, and even a pointed tail; all of the markings of the devil.
To this day, people passing by the Hull House report seeing a hideous, devil-like face staring at them from the upstairs window. Some say it is the child itself, while some say it is its ghost.
