The Invisible Crowd was an auditory phenomenon encountered by a Fortean Times message board user named "celticmick" in his own home. While watching television, the witness reported hearing what sounded like the crowd of a football stadium. Muting the television to better hear the phenomenon, he could hear that the "crowd" was chanting in what appeared to be Arabic.
Description[]
The phenomenon was described as the sound of a large crowd (at least 100-150 people) chanting in a sing-song manner, in a language described as sounding like Arabic. The phenomenon was described as "too ‘enveloping’ to be from a car or vehicle stereo, it seemed to have clarity and depth and it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up."
Possible Explanations[]
There are several explanations as to what the phenomenon could be. Theories include:
- A ghostly presence
- An auditory hallucination
Trivia[]
- This story was first told in a thread on the Fortean Times message board: here.
- The user sent a text to a friend who lived closer to the apparent source of the noise, but he heard nothing.
