The Invisible Crowd was an auditory phenomenon encountered by a Fortean Times message board user named "celticmick" in his own home. While watching television, the witness reported hearing what sounded like the crowd of a football stadium. Muting the television to better hear the phenomenon, he could hear that the "crowd" was chanting in what appeared to be Arabic.

DescriptionEdit

The phenomenon was described as the sound of a large crowd (at least 100-150 people) chanting in a sing-song manner, in a language described as sounding like Arabic. The phenomenon was described as "too ‘enveloping’ to be from a car or vehicle stereo, it seemed to have clarity and depth and it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up."

Possible ExplanationsEdit

There are several explanations as to what the phenomenon could be. Theories include:

  • A ghostly presence
  • An auditory allucination

TriviaEdit

  • This story was first told in a thread on the Fortean Times message board: here.
  • The user sent a text to a friend who lived closer to the apparent source of the noise, but he heard nothing.
